Our Roots
A historic mid-century showroom, reimagined for modern dining
The building at 882 N. East Street has a unique industrial history that directly inspired the restaurant's current identity. Built in the 1960s, the space originally operated as an actual car dealership showroom on Frederick's industrial East side.
When celebrity chef and Frederick native Bryan Voltaggio first took over the space in 2012, he opened Family Meal, an upscale take on classic Southern comfort food.
As the restaurant evolved, the team decided to lean fully into the building's architectural roots.

The space never needed to change - the soaring ceilings, glass picture windows, and open floor plan
were right from day one. What's evolved is the name and the menu's confidence, carrying the same
food and spirit forward as Showroom.

"I can't say enough about The Showroom. My wife and I had an early dinner there and the meal was outstanding... We split the Roasted Beets and Orange Salad as well as an order of Cheddar Chive Biscuits to start... For the main course I enjoyed the Mushroom Risotto with added salmon and what a combination. The salmon skin was like seafood bacon and added a nice saltiness to the risotto... My wife had the Family Meal Fried Chicken and the hint of Old Bay in the coating was awesome and gave a nice nod to Maryland!"
"I have a client in Frederick, MD and travel there from Washington, D.C. often. My favorite meetings are at Showroom. The reason is simple: they have great food. Kinda key for a restaurant, and Showroom has really good food. Whenever I have a meeting with this client and we don't go to Showroom, I am always disappointed. I love their Steak and Eggs. Took my daughter to one meeting, she loved the restaurant, loved the food — she was not so big on my meeting though."
"My friend wanted to go out on a weeknight for a good salad in Frederick. I couldn't think of anything (!), but we lucked out by ending up at Showroom. I think of Showroom as an upscale/fresh, homecooked meal spot with a diner vibe... We both chose salmon on different salads and were really happy! I think I'm right in saying Showroom pan fries the salmon skin down so it becomes nice and crispy, then bakes it to finish. So it wasn't the grilled, overspiced, and overdone salmon served at most restaurants, even good ones... I hope to go back more often."
